Opening Keynotes: Planning Sustainable Transportation

William Murdock, AICP, Executive Director, Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission

William Murdock, AICP, is responsible for the overall management of the agency including structure, personnel, finance and the implementation of policies and programs. He represents MORPC before a variety of government, business and stakeholder organizations across the region, state and nation. He has an extensive background in community planning and transportation at the state and local levels. As a member of the American Planning Association, the National Brownfields Association and the Urban Land Institute, Murdock has presented at a number of local, regional and national conferences and events. He is currently president-elect of the Ohio State University Knowlton School of Architecture Alumni Association.

Giorgio Rizzoni, PHD, Director, Center for Automotive Research, Ohio State University

Giorgio Rizzoni is the Ford Motor Company Chair in Electromechanical Systems, Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Director of Center for Automotive Research, Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and Fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers. Prof. Rizzoni also holds courtesy appointments in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and in the Department of Design. His research activities are related to advanced propulsion systems for ground vehicles, energy efficiency, alternative fuels, the interaction between vehicles and the electric power grid, vehicle safety and intelligence, and policy and economic analysis of alternative fuels and vehicle fuel economy. He received his BS, MS and PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1980, 1982 and 1986 from the University of Michigan.
